What is ILA?

Independent Legal Advice is a meeting where a lawyer acting for you alone, not both parties confirms you understand the agreement you're signing and did so freely. It is not always legally required, but an agreement signed without it is easier to challenge, and some provinces, such as Alberta and Saskatchewan for property agreements, effectively require it.
