Separation agreement

A written contract between separating spouses or partners that settles property, debt, support and parenting. In Canada it is a domestic contract that must be in writing, signed and witnessed; in the US it is usually incorporated into the divorce decree. It is generally enforceable as a contract, and in many places its support terms can be filed with a court or enforcement program.
